Join the University Community Orchestra for a vibrant and festive December concert featuring music that spans grand opera, beloved classics, contemporary K-pop, and holiday favorites. The evening opens with the stirring Hungarian March from Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust, followed by Beethoven’s powerful Coriolan Overture, a work of dramatic intensity and noble struggle. Mascagni’s tender Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana offers a moment of lyrical beauty and reflection.
Adding a modern and exciting touch, the program features “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters by Ejae, arranged by Colby, bringing contemporary energy to the orchestral stage. Selections from Bizet’s beloved Carmen Suite No. 1, including the fiery Prélude -Aragonaise and the triumphant Les Toréadors, promise color and excitement.
The evening continues with Franck’s serene and radiant Panis Angelicus, arranged by Leopold Stokowski, followed by the joyful A Most Wonderful Christmas arranged by Robert Sheldon. The concert concludes with two beloved dances from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite—the magical Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the exhilarating Trepak — sending audiences into the holiday season with sparkle and cheer.
Conducted by Dr. Jun Kim and Dr. Jeong-In Kim, this concert celebrates the expressive power of orchestral music across genres and eras, and the warmth of the season.
The University Community Orchestra is a full symphonic ensemble that welcomes players of all standard orchestral instruments—including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Open to UWM students, faculty, staff, and community members ages 15 and up, the ensemble offers a supportive environment for intermediate-level musicians to rehearse and perform together.
