Please join us for the UWM French Program’s 23rd Annual Festival of French Films (February 14-23, 2020) screenings of Fahavalo (2018) and Zombi Child (2019), co-sponsored by the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies.

Fahavalo  (2018) – A documentary about the rebellion in Madagascar in 1947. Quite moving with contemporary witness accounts from the survivors. Another horrendous episode in France’s colonial history.

Zombi Child (2019) – In 1962 Haiti, a man is brought back from the dead to work in the hell of sugar cane plantations. Fifty-five years later, a Haitian teenager, at school in Paris after the 2010 earthquake, tells her friends her family secret – and about her aunt, a mambo. She is at the school for daughters of holders of the Légion d’honneur.
