New tool to enroll in classes launches in October

Beginning in October, continuing UWM students will have a new option to help them plan their schedules and enroll in classes.

Stellic is a new online enrollment and degree planner tool with features that offer students a way to visualize and design their educational journey, semester by semester.

Currently, students enroll in courses through PAWS or Schedule Planner, said UWM Registrar Kristin Hildebrandt. Students can still schedule for courses directly through PAWS, but they won’t be able to access the current Schedule Planner tool after Sept. 29. Stellic will replace Schedule Planner in late October.

With Stellic, students can explore different majors and minors, design each semester and make decisions to ensure on-time degree completion.

“It’s more like a student portal,” Hildebrandt said. “Students are gaining an academic planner instead of the tool they have been using, which is more like a shopping cart. It helps students build their academics around their work or sports schedules, but there are many other capabilities.”

With Stellic students will be able to:

  • Drag and drop courses into planned semesters and years.
  • Generate the ideal semester schedule based on individual preferences.
  • Collaborate with advisor
  • Browse elective courses based on their personal interests.
  • See their cumulative and semester grade point average.

For graduate students, the tool shows aspects such as teaching requirements, conferences they need to attend and steps for defending a thesis or dissertation.

In the future, Stellic will offer a feature that allows students to explore ‘what-if’ scenarios with different majors and track their academic progress.
