UWM names new dean of the Lubar School of Business

Kaushal Chari has been named dean of the Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He begins his tenure in June.

Chari comes to UWM from the Muma School of Business at the University of South Florida, where he has served as an associate dean for research and professional programs since 2013.

He will be the school’s sixth dean, assuming the position from longtime dean V. Kanti Prasad, a professor of entrepreneurship who led the school from 2002-2009 and has served as interim dean since 2015.

Chari has a track record of fundraising, business and civic engagement, strategic planning and creation of innovative programming, including an online MBA program. As associate dean for research, his accomplishments include:

  • dramatically increasing new student enrollment in the MBA program
  • establishing a series of joint USF-Citigroup boot camps focusing on financial topics
  • growing total grants and contracts awarded to the Muma College over a four-year period

A researcher of software engineering, business intelligence and distributed systems, Chari previously chaired theUSF department ofInformation Systems & Decision Sciences from 2006-2013.

He earned his PhD in management information systems at the University of Iowa, and taught at Arkansas State University and James Madison University in Virginia before joining the faculty of USF in 1998.
