Since its launch in 2013, UWM has been part of the University Innovation Fellows (UI Fellows) program, a nationwide program run by Stanford University where students train with colleagues from across the country to become change agents for innovation and entrepreneurship on their campuses.

Student Change Agents

UWM’s University Innovation (UI) Fellows gives students a chance to share experiences, challenges, and best practices for implementing changes on their campuses through a national program. UWM’s UI Fellows have emerged as national leaders in this program. Participants have worked with UWM Student Startup Challenge teams, visited local innovation spaces (Red Arrow Labs, Rockwell Automation and the Milwaukee Art Museum), and worked on a design challenge around innovation spaces for the UWM Girls Who Code program. Check out the UIF website here!

Maker-Spaces

With support from We Energies, UI Fellows reconstructed and rebranded the Kulwicki Garage, an innovation space in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  The space is now a key meeting place for student entrepreneurs and working environment for delivery of pop-up classes and mentoring sessions.  UI Fellows have also become teachers – leading student-led pop-up classes on topics that include managing your personal brand, design thinking, business ethics, and designing innovation spaces.
