UWM Linguistics alumna Elena Mihas (PhD 2010) has received the 2016 Graduate of the Last Decade Award from the UWM Alumni Association.

Elena is an expert on Alto Perené, a language of Peru. An expanded version of her dissertation was published under the title “A grammar of Alto Perené (Arawak)” (Mouton de Gruyter, 2015). She is currently a postdoctoral research associate at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia.
