Listed below are the requirements for the Classics Major – Ancient Greek Language and Literature Concentration. In addition to the requirements for the major, students must also satisfy all of the university general education requirements and the College of Letters & Science breadth and other degree requirements. Degree requirements will vary depending on when you took your first college class. You are strongly advised to consult your advisor to ensure you stay on track towards a degree. Classics 4-Year Schedule


Total Credits

33 credits

Required Courses (15 credits)
  • Greek 103 - First Semester Greek, 4 credits
  • Greek 104 - Second Semester Greek, 4 credits
  • Greek 205 - Third Semester Greek (or equivalent), 4 credits
  • Classic 201 - Introduction to Greek Life and Literature, 3 credits
Additional Requirements (12 credits)

Four additional courses in Greek at the 300 level or above.

Electives (6 credits)

Six additional credits chosen from Greek, Latin, and/or Classic courses.

Additional Requirements

A total of 15 credits of all courses in the major must be at the 300 level or above taken in residence at UWM.

L&S Research Requirement

Students must complete the L&S research requirement in the context of a Greek or Classic course of their choosing at the 300 level or above, under the supervision of the instructor of that course.

GPA Requirements

The College requires that students attain at least a 2.000 GPA on all credits in the major, including any transfer work.
