Class Updates

The Major with a Classical Latin Language and Literature concentration is intended for students who wish to study the language and literature of the ancient Romans. Courses will focus on reading, understanding and translating Latin texts. In the first three semesters the emphasis is on grammar, syntax and vocabulary through reading texts. In later semesters the focus shifts to ancient literary texts in prose and poetry by Roman authors, such as Cicero, Caesar, Livy, Catullus, Ovid and Virgil with the goal of familiarizing students with these authors’ writing styles and introducing them to various ancient literary genres.

See Classical Latin Language and Literature Major Requirements for more information.

If you’ve already studied Latin, please contact the program chair, Professor Cova (covae@uwm.edu), for more information about the Latin placement exam.
