Classics is fundamental in the humanities and to a liberal arts education. It is the study of the literature, languages, cultures and societies of ancient Greece and Rome and is one of the oldest of the liberal arts disciplines. Studying Classics provides insights into and understanding of these ancient civilizations, which served to form the intellectual foundation of our present day world.

The UWM Classics Program offers a major and a minor. Three specific academic concentrations are offered within each. They are:

  • Classical Civilization
  • Classical Latin Language and Literature
  • Ancient Greek Language and Literature
