Academic Staff Update 03.03.2015

Hi Everyone –

Here is an update on what we know right now about what is happening relative to the budget.

The Campus Budget Committee met for the first time Feb 17 and will meet again on Wed, March 4. The only action item that came out of the Feb 17 meeting was that all Schools, Colleges and Divisions are being asked to prepare a 5% and 10% budget cut scenario. As of now this is an exercise only, but if you have concerns about proposals under development in your School, College or Division I encourage you to ask your supervisor and/or Dean, Division or Department head. Furloughs are a possibility but no proposals have been put forward yet. A team has been assigned to gather data about a number of different cost cutting/savings possibilities which will be presented to the Budget Planning Committee. I will update you as I can with any definitive information about budget cutting strategies.

Two updates (attached) from Ray Cross in response to UW-System Chancellors’ request (2/27) for more information on the Public Authority.

A letter (attached) from Alan Crist, UW System Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Workforce Diversity, regarding employee benefits under the changes proposed in the Governor’s 2015-17 budget.

Academic Staff Communications:

The Academic Staff Committee will be meeting weekly to stay on top of communication relative to the proposed budget cuts and the public authority. We will provide updates to all academic staff after those meetings.
