Dance High School Workshop Day

High School Workshop Day is the best way for high school groups and classes to learn from our internationally known faculty. This event is great for those curious and interested in becoming a dance major at UW-Milwaukee's Peck School of the Arts. Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series: Priya Kambli

Priya Kambli was born in India. She moved to the United States at age 18 carrying her entire life in one suitcase that weighed 20 lbs. She is currently Professor of Art at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. In 2008 PhotoLucida awarded her a book publication prize for her project Color Falls Down, published in 2010.

The work of Amy O’Neill investigates the intersections and balances between community and isolation, and the collaborative effort to build and maintain shared commonalities. Her paintings explore the invisible structures that support, improve, or divide specific communities. Her work has been included in juried and invitational exhibitions across the US and locally at the Portrait Society Gallery, Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Charles Allis Art Museum.

Union Art Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition

The Union Art Gallery presents the 52nd Annual Juried Exhibition, a showcase of artwork in a variety of mediums by college student artists from around the Greater Milwaukee area. Hollis Hammonds is a multimedia artist whose work, built on memory and utilizing evidence from the public collective consciousness, investigates social issues ranging from economic disparity and state violence to environmental degradation and human-made disasters. Her dystopian drawings and found-object installations have been widely exhibited throughout the US.

World Percussion Night

The UWM Percussion Area hosts World Percussion Night in the beautiful Jan Serr Studio, featuring special guest Ko-Thi Dance Company alongside the UWM Steel PANthers Steel Band and other student ensembles. Audiences will love the upbeat, exciting energy of African drumming and Brazilian Samba in addition to traditional and arranged music for ensembles consisting of Guatemalan marimba doble and Trinidadian steel pans performed by UWM students and faculty and vibrant community ensembles.

Dames at Sea

The show that launched Bernadette Peters as a Broadway star, this delightful, funny, tongue-in-cheek love letter to Hollywood musicals of the 1930s tells the story of sweet Ruby's journey from her small hometown to New York City to become a Broadway star. There, she meets Dick, a sailor with ambitions as a songwriter. In grand Hollywood fashion, they tap dance their way from the chorus to stardom on the deck of a passing battleship. Dames at Sea is a non-stop ride of romance, laughs, dance and musical delights.

Sulo Bee is a co-founder of Queer Metalsmiths where they seek to uplift queer voices in the field of metalsmithing and craft. They hold a BFA in Metals and Jewelry from Texas State University in 2018 and an MFA from SUNY New Paltz in 2022. Bee currently teaches in Metals and Foundations the School of Art and Design at Texas State University.

Jazz Ensembles

The 18-member UWM Jazz Ensemble performs music written or arranged specifically for a large jazz orchestra. The repertoire includes music from Duke Ellington and Count Basie as well as contemporary composers such as Maria Schneider, Tom Matta and Bob Mintzer.

Wind Band Conducting Symposium

The Wind Band Conducting Symposium will focus on enhancing conducting, score study, and wind band teaching. Conducting participants will conduct the UWM Wind Ensemble or Symphony Band while receiving feedback from the conducting faculty. Session topics also include conducting pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, and musicianship. Attendees may participate as either a Conducting Participant or an Observing Auditor. Conducting participants will also have the opportunity to conduct one of the large wind bands in concert at the end of the symposium.

Participants will conduct the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band after two days of study under Dr. Thomas Gamboa, Director of Bands at UW-Milwaukee; Dr. Scott Corley, Associate Director of Bands at UW-Milwaukee; and a guest clinician (TBA).
