The UWM Wind Band Conducting Symposium Concert is the climax to a weekend of intense conducting, score study, and wind band pedagogy. Symposium participants, each carefully selected from a pool of local and international talent, will conduct the Wind Ensemble and University Community Band in concert following two days of study under Dr. Thomas Gamboa, Director of Bands at UW-Milwaukee; Dr. Scott Corley, Associate Director of Bands at UW-Milwaukee; and renowned guest clinician Michael Haithcock, Professor Emeritus and retired Director of Bands from the University of Michigan.
These eleven conductors have been selected from a cohort of emerging talent and established musicians in the field, and our concert will feature an eclectic array of music from the wind band repertory, including Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, Eric Whitacre’s Sleep, Debussy’s The Engulfed Cathedral and many more.
