Drs. Joyce F. Kirk and Erin N. Winkler were invited speakers at the 2012 Northwestern University conference, ‘A Beautiful Struggle: Transformative Black Studies in Shifting Political Landscapes–A Summit of Doctoral Programs.’

Graduate student Charmane Perry received a Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship to study accelerated introductory Haitian Creole at Florida International University’s Summer Haitian Institute.
