This award will provide up to $5000 in student hourly support at $14/hour for the 2024-25 academic year for up to eight seniors to work as research assistants with UWM faculty research mentors. Applicants must be planning to graduate in either May, August or December of 2025, have the commitment of a UWM faculty research mentor to work together, and have exhibited an exceptional commitment to undergraduate research during their time at UWM.
Expectations of receiving this award:
- Represent the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) at campus and local events;
- Meet monthly with OUR Interim Director Kyla Esguerra to discuss research progress and professional development opportunities;
- Give a final oral presentation on the outcomes of the research project at the Senior Excellence in Research Colloquium.
To apply for this award, please submit a cover letter, CV, research plan (1-2 pages) and two letters of recommendation from faculty or academic staff (one from your research mentor) to Kyla Esguerra at kylam@uwm.edu by April 1, 2024. Please also address the following prompts in a one to two page (double-spaced) statement (500 words): How has participating in undergraduate research shaped your educational experience at UWM? What do you see as the benefits of undergraduate research? What would you do to raise awareness about these benefits at UWM?
