Veterans Week includes full slate of activities

UWM’s annual tribute to those who have served begins Friday, Nov. 2, with the Military and Veterans Ball, kicking off more than a week of activities leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 12.

And UWM’s Waukesha and Washington County campuses will honor veterans and service members with events on Veterans Day.

Events on the Milwaukee campus include the “Dear Veteran” project, where civilians can leave messages for a veteran; the mobile vet center van, where veterans can meet with VA counselors and other medical providers; the “Serving Those Who Served” brunch; and “Women Veterans: An Evening in Chocolate.”

The week’s event are organized by UWM’s Military and Veterans Resource Center. A full list of activities can be found on MAVRC’s Facebook page.

More than 1,400 veterans are enrolled at UWM, making the university a leader in the Midwest.

A noon ceremony Nov. 12 at UWM at Waukesha will feature Anthony Anderson, an Iraq War veteran whose experiences were chronicled in the Emmy-nominated documentary “Almost Sunrise.” History Professor Tim Thering will discuss the history of Veterans Day and the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. More information is available on the UWM at Waukesha website.

At UWM at Washington County, the Student Veterans Club will host area veterans and their families at a spaghetti luncheon Nov. 12.
