UWM’s realignment of schools and colleges now in effect

As of July 1, 2023, several of UWM’s schools and colleges have been realigned to leverage relationships among various disciplines within the university and benefit from administrative efficiencies.

All majors and academic programs remain the same, and faculty and instructors will continue teaching and supporting their existing majors and programs.

Some schools now reside within a newly created college. For example, the Peck School of the Arts and the School of Architecture & Urban Planning now make up the College of the Arts & Architecture, led by Interim Dean Mo Zell. Additionally, Dean Tina Freiberger leads the College of Community Engagement & Professions, which comprises the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, the School of Education and the School of Information Studies

Two new schools have been created: the School of Biomedical Sciences & Health Care Administration and the School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology. These schools, as well as the School of Nursing, make up the College of Health Professions & Sciences, led by Dean Kim Litwack.

The Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health now includes health care informatics, kinesiology and nutritional sciences programs. The School of Freshwater Sciences is now home to the atmospheric science program.

All philanthropic funds associated with any realigned schools or colleges will continue to be used according to the donors’ wishes. Online giving has been reorganized to make it easier to find areas to support.

Unit realignment is a key priority of UWM’s 2030 Action Plan, which provides the framework for UWM to be a strong and sustainable institution far into the future. Reducing the number of college-level units brings the university more in line with its peers and provides new opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.
