Strong American Sign Language and Interpreter Training Programs have made UWM a center for the deaf and hard of hearing. Deaf Awareness Week, Sept. 21-26, lets both the deaf and hearing explore the language, myths and realities of deaf life and the unique culture.
Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham is a National Humanities Medal winner and renowned historian who teaches at Harvard. An early academic experience at UWM helped begin her life’s work.
