UWM pays tribute with event-filled Veterans Week

Veterans Week kicks off Friday, Nov. 8, to honor veterans at UWM and in the community with a week full of activities.

The events for the week are organized by UWM’s Military and Veterans Resource Center. Activities continue throughout the week of Veterans Day and end on Friday, Nov. 15, with a day of rest and relaxation.

Military and Veterans Ball, Nov. 8

The sixth annual Military and Veterans Ball will take place Friday, Nov. 8, at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center downtown from 6 to 11 p.m.

Military and Veterans Resource Center open house, Nov. 11

To celebrate the seventh anniversary of its opening, the Military and Veterans Resource Center will hold an open house Monday, Nov. 11. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., appetizers, beverages and drawings for prizes will be offered in the Student Union room WG99.

Guest speaker Jeff Sheng, Nov. 12

From 2 to 4 p.m., artist and photographer Jeff Sheng will present “A Life Worth Living” in the Alumni Fireside Lounge. He will exhibit his photo series on transgender military members and their experiences.

Mobile Vet Center, Nov. 12-14

The center will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering counseling, outreach and referral services to help veterans and their families successfully make post-war readjustments to civilian life.

Women Veterans Evening of Wine and Chocolate, Nov. 13

The Military and Veterans Resource Center welcome female veterans for an evening of food, music, beverages and chocolate.

Serving Those Who Serve, Nov. 14

Leaders from UWM and the community will give back to veterans and current service members by serving them a free brunch on Thursday morning in the Union.
