UWM again earns top military friendly rankings

UWM has again earned two designations as a top military friendly university for 2025-26.

The university earned gold status for its efforts to serve and welcome students who are veterans or currently serving in the military. UWM was also recognized for being exceptionally welcoming and supportive of military spouses.

The rankings are compiled by VIQTORY, a company that produces G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse magazines. Institutions earning the military friendly designation were evaluated using public data sources and survey responses.

UWM has achieved gold status for the last several years. Yolanda Medina, director of the Military & Veterans Resource Center at UWM, noted that the university works hard to make it a welcoming place for veterans and active-duty military members.

“We are excited to receive a gold ranking once again,” Medina said. “The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee military-friendly subcommittee of the Veterans Advisory Council to the Chancellor meets regularly throughout the year to assess all areas of the military-friendly metrics, ensuring an accurate representation of UWM support for our entire military-related student population.”

More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2024-2025 survey, with 537 earning gold, silver or bronze status. Factors that determined the rankings include student retention, graduation, job placement and loan repayment.

UWM educates more veterans and active-duty students than any other Universities of Wisconsin institution, with more than 1,250 enrolled in Fall 2024.

The university provides a full slate of resources for its military students, including the Military and Veterans Resources Center, a military education benefits office, the Veterans Success on Campus program, Veterans Upward Bound and Army ROTC.
