UWM to celebrate chancellor’s inauguration on Friday, Oct. 2

UWM will celebrate the inauguration of its ninth chancellor, Mark Mone, on Friday, Oct. 2. “No one is better positioned to handle the challenges the university faces than Chancellor Mone,” said David Misky, president of the UWM Alumni Association Board of Trustees. “He has incredible support within the university, but he also has a wonderful relationship with business. Both of these relationships will be incredibly useful.”

UWM opens world-class research complex

The first new building to open on UWM’s East Side campus in 20 years, the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex provides world-class facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for research in physics, public health and other fields. “I have no doubt that KIRC will attract new talent to the university and the city itself,” said Rodney Swain, dean of the College of Letters and Science.

Clinton gives young voters up-close look at presidential politics

Democrat Hillary Clinton is the latest presidential candidate to visit UWM, joining a list that includes Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Her appearance gave students about to vote in their first election an up-close look at presidential politics. “I’m pretty excited to take part in the democratic process,” freshman Neil McClaine said.
