Denim Day on April 30 brings attention to survivor support

UWM students, faculty and staff are invited to wear their favorite pieces of denim on Wednesday, April 30, as part of Denim Day. It’s an annual day in which people around the world wear denim to bring awareness to victim-blaming myths and show support of victims and survivors of sexual violence.

Denim Day began in 1999 after an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore “tight jeans.”

On Denim Day, visit the Survivor Support and Wellness Fair in the Union Concourse from noon-2 p.m. and view the denim displays across campus.

In addition, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) at UWM includes several prevention and awareness events across campus, including bystander intervention trainings, sound baths, tea-blending workshops and more.
