Phillips, Abigail L.

Assistant Professor, School of Information Studies


Dr. Philips received her Ph.D. in Information Studies from the School of Information at Florida State University in Spring 2016.  She received her Master of Library and Information Science with a focus on children and youth services from Florida State University in 2008. After receiving her MLIS, Dr. Philips worked as a public librarian for four years at a small rural library system in Southwest Georgia before entering the doctoral program at Florida State University. Her work as a librarian inspired her doctoral research, which focused on the role of empathy in librarianship, especially as a source of support for cyberbullied young adults.

Before joining UWM, Dr. Philips was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University. Her current research interests include young adults, social media, cyberbullying, digital citizenship, libraries, and librarianship.
