Colloquium: Shira Hahn

December 11, 2015, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Our last colloquium talk of the semester will be a “Careers” talk by Shira Hahn, Ph.D., a linguist and scientist at GN Resound in Glenview, Illinois, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of hearing aids.

Please join us as Dr. Hahn talks about her academic training in linguistics and how it prepared her for a career in industry.
There will be sweet treats. All are welcome.

Bio: Shira Hahn (nee Katseff) has loved the logic of language from an early age, beginning with a fondness for codes and ciphers. She earned her B.S. degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia University in 2004. Her decision to pursue linguistics as a career was spurred by her deep involvement in the lab of Ann Senghas and her ongoing work cataloguing the de novo development of Nicaraguan sign language (NSL). There Shira made important early contributions on the development of the NSL number system.
