Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers is working to integrate Social Determinants of Health into the clinical setting by screening adult patients for current needs, identifying helpful resources, and making connections to additional services. The intern will serve as a Patient Screener as well as contribute meaningfully to additional projects relating to social determinants. As a patient screener, the intern will gain experience in a busy, multi-cultural community health setting working with a medically underserved population. They will acquire valuable skills in customer service and patient interaction, witness first-hand the patient’s barriers to accessing care and maintaining wellness, and learn about health care coordination and availability of resources (or the lack of) in the Milwaukee area. The Milwaukee Justice Center is recruiting interns for the Pro Se Self-Help Desk. Due to the pandemic, this semester’s internship will be conducted remotely (using Zoom).  Although the format has changed slightly, the internship will still allow students to work one on one with unrepresented litigants in Milwaukee County.  They will assist litigants with forms related to divorce, post-judgment modifications of orders, name changes and service of process.  Students will also be helping to draft notes for clients and helping clients navigate changes to the processes and procedures of the legal system since the beginning of the pandemic.
