Declaration of Certificate Programs

Eligibility

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) Certificate Program is open to all students seeking a bachelor’s degree from UWM, to those who previously received a bachelor’s degree from UWM or any other accredited college or university, and to those who do not plan to pursue a college or university degree (non-degree students) but who have a strong interest in this subject. To be admitted to the university as non-degree students, individuals must meet regular university admission requirements.

The Latinx Studies Certificate Program is open to any UWM undergraduate and to those who previously received a bachelor’s degree from UWM or any other accredited college or university.

Declaration

You are encouraged to declare your major or certificate early in your academic career, ideally by the end of your sophomore year, to better ensure your ability to take all necessary classes in a timely manner. Once your declaration form is filed you will schedule regular and as needed advising sessions with the LACS/Latinx Studies Academic Programs Coordinator and Advisor to check-in on your progress and for assistance with course selection.

You will then need to contact Natasha Borges Sugiyama (sugiyamn@uwm.edu) to set up an advising meeting.

Together you will review your current transcript for courses you have completed as well as classes you may still need. You may also discuss scheduling and course selection as well as establishing a plan of study for the remainder of your program.
