Welcome to the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP).
The HRPP is the home of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the protection of human subjects. The IRB holds autonomous decision-making authority when reviewing human subject research studies under the jurisdiction of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. The mission of the IRB is to ensure the adequacy of the research plan, to minimize risks and to maximize the potential for benefit for human subjects who participate in research.
If your submission requires prioritization due to COVID-19, submit in I-Manager as usual and then send a separate email to firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know.
Otherwise, all submissions (new studies, amendments, continuing reviews, and determination forms) are reviewed in the order in which they were received. IRB office reviews are currently taking approximately 8-10 business days from the date of submission. After that, your submission may be: 1) sent to a reviewer; 2) returned to you for revisions; or 3) approved.
The IRB office has a number of other projects and responsibilities that require prioritization right now, so our reviews are taking much longer than usual. We apologize for the inconvenience and will review your submission as soon as we can.
