Application Process
Thank you for your interest in UWM’s Administrative Leadership program!

Complete the UWM Graduate School Online Application.
The Master’s Degree Application Checklist (PDF) may be a helpful resource.
For more information on international admissions, please visit the Center for International Education.
Read the instructions carefully and complete the forms accurately. On your Administrative Leadership application, please be sure to indicate which concentration you are applying for:
- Adult, Continuing, and Higher Education Administration
- Educational Administration and Supervision
You can find answers to some of our frequently asked questions in the Administrative Leadership Master’s Degree Program Information FAQ (PDF). Note: The Administrative Leadership MS with the focus of Adult, Continuing, and Higher Education Administration is currently offered as an online program only, and therefore cannot accept students who need a visa (F1 or J1) to study at UWM.
Note: The Administrative Leadership MS with the focus of Education Administration and Supervision currently includes all online classes and therefore cannot accept students who need a visa (F1 or J1) to study at UWM.
Individuals who do not hold, or are eligible to hold, a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teacher or pupil services license may not be eligible for Wisconsin administrator licensure. Out of state students must check with their own state/national education agencies/departments.
2. Wait for Your Admissions Decision
After you submit your Administrative Leadership application, your application will be reviewed by the Graduate School who will evaluate your application for their minimum requirements for admission. You will receive a series of automatic emails about the status of your application as it moves through this process. The Administrative Leadership Department will also review your application to determine fit with the program.
For applicants to the Educational Administration and Supervision concentration who intend to pursue K-12 administrative licensure through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), a criminal background check is required prior to official admission to the program. After program review, applicants to whom admission is offered will receive instructions for completing the criminal background check. Assuming the background check is completed and passed, the department will forward the admission recommendation to the Graduate School.
After the department makes its recommendation, the Graduate School will finalize the admittance and send you an official letter with your admission decision. At this time, applicants who are admitted by the Graduate School will be able to log into the application and accept the offer of admission. An official acceptance letter will also be sent in the mail including ePanther account activation and registration procedures.
3. Plan Your Program
If you are admitted to UWM, the Admissions Specialist will also send you a welcome email with your advisor assignment. Your faculty advisor will help you plan your program, and you should contact him or her as soon as possible after admission. You should let your advisor know the courses for which you enroll each semester; any changes in an approved program must have advisor approval. We are happy to answer any questions about your professional objectives and studies at UWM.
4. Be Aware of Program Completion Time Limits
Master’s degree programs must be completed within seven years of admission. For full-time students, it’s possible to complete master’s degree requirements in one academic year, plus one or two summers. Part-time students are likely to need three to five years to complete degree requirements, depending on whether or not they attend summer sessions.
5. Complete A Master’s Capstone Project
The Graduate School requires all master’s degree students to complete a capstone requirement. The capstone requirement for this program is an electronic portfolio. The e-Portfolio demonstrates whether you’re able to apply knowledge, understandings and concepts from your graduate studies to questions, situations or problems of an administrative nature. Learn more about the electronic portfolio.
6. Note Departmental Grade Requirements
Students who receive a grade of “C” or below in any departmental course, or a “B -” in two departmental courses, may be dropped from the program.
