The Department of Africology is pleased to co-sponsor, “The Ferguson Conjuncture: Why the Humanities Matter Now” by Dr. George Lipsitz, American Studies scholar and professor in the Department of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara
We value the Humanities because it is those disciplines that teach us to think and ask us to consider the world around us. Is our society fair? Do our actions promote justice? How does power and the perception of race impact how we speak, act, and think – especially after the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the ensuing #blacklivesmatter movement? We’ll explore these questions with George Lipsitz and find out how the humanities can help us answer the tough questions.
