Personal Training

Welcome to the Personal Fitness Training Program! Our certified personal fitness trainers are dedicated to helping you reach your health and fitness goals. Whether you’re taking your first steps into the world of fitness or aiming to enhance athletic performance, our trainers are equipped to support you every step of the way.  

Registration

In this one-on-one service, our trainers will collaborate with you to create a personal fitness program. A Personal Fitness Profile is a prerequisite for all personal training sessions.

Personal Training is encouraged for everyone who exercises, from beginners to competitive athletes. Personal training provides motivation, guidance, and consistency for healthy habits, weight management and a better quality of life!

Personal Training Policies

Scheduling

  • Prior to signing up for any Personal Fitness Training, all clients must complete the online Personal Training request form.
  • All Personal Fitness Training sessions must be scheduled directly with the trainer.
  • All Personal Training sessions must be purchased online or in person BEFORE scheduling the session with your trainer.
  • All first-time clients must go through a Personal Fitness Profile (Fitness Assessment) prior to any Personal Fitness Training Sessions.

Payment

All sessions must be prepaid and will be due prior to the appointment. Payment must be made either online or at the University Recreation Information Center. Cash, check, or charge is accepted at the Information Center. Please make checks out to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Paying a Personal Fitness Trainer directly is strictly prohibited; all membership privileges would be terminated.

Expiration of Packages

Any sessions that remain after the expiration date will be forfeited.

  • 1 session:  30 days from date of purchase
  • 5 or 10 sessions:  6 months from date of purchase

Session Times/Tardiness

Sessions will be set for 30 or 60 minutes. Clients are expected to begin working out at the start time of the scheduled appointment. If a client arrives late, the session will still end at the scheduled time; no time will be added at the end of the session. If a client is more than 15 minutes late for a session, the session is subject to cancellation and the client will be charged for a full session.

Cancellation/Rescheduling

Clients must communicate with their trainer directly at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment to cancel or reschedule. If no contact is made within 24 hours, the client will be charged for the session.

Refund Policy

All Sessions are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Outside Personal Training

Only UREC Personal Trainers are allowed to train clients who have purchased training sessions through UREC in the Klotsche Center/Pavilion. Violation of this policy may result in termination of UREC privileges.

Partner Training

Please note that prices include ONE client, so each individual must purchase a package before being assigned to a trainer. Completing a Personal Fitness Profile is a prerequisite for the first session, which must be done together based on the goal of the training sessions. For more information, please contact El Russell at russelek@uwm.edu

Fitness Assessments

Personal Fitness Profile

Our expert trainers will collaborate with you to define specific health and fitness objectives. This assessment includes measures of resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition, cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. A fitness test is a great way to establish a baseline that you can use to assess your progress.

Fitness Orientation

If you are new to the weight room or want a refresher on how to utilize our machines, sign up for a FREE 45-minute Fitness Orientation! Our Fitness Specialists will lead your group through a circuit of 8-10 of our selectorized and plate-loaded machines. 

Registration is first-come, first-served. Registration opens 7 days in advance and closes 1-hour prior to the session. If you register but are unable to attend, you must cancel your registration at least 2 hours before the session. Late cancellations or no-shows will result in the loss of sign-up privileges for Fitness Orientations.

*Please note: if you are looking for help with dumbbell/barbell movements, program guidance, form assistance, or any other personalized fitness information, you will need to sign up for Personal Training, as this is not covered in a Fitness Orientation. Body Composition Screening

Body Composition refers to the proportion of fat mass and fat-free or lean mass in your body. Our Fitness specialists can assess your approximate body fat percentage utilizing skin-fold calipers. To ensure the accuracy of the assessment, we recommend refraining from strenuous physical activity for 24 hours before your appointment. Drop by the fitness center to request yours today!
