A student’s support system is a critical component of their success as a college student. Once your student registers for orientation, you’ll gain access to the Orientation Hub in the Panther Family Portal. Here, you’ll find the guest program agenda as well as information and resources shared at orientation.
Families are a crucial source of support for college students. When you attend family orientation in support of your UWM student, you will learn important information about the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee to support your student in their transition to college.
At Family Orientation, you can expect to: -Attend a program for families only, while your student attends their own program where they will meet peers, explore the campus and enroll in courses. -Learn about important University resources designed to support you and your student. -Familiarize yourself with the UWM campus, where your student will spend much of their time learning for years to come. -Get answers to your questions about UWM and how to support your student in their transition to college.
Orientation program guest policy
Up to two adult guests (parent, guardian, spouse or other support person) are welcome at in-person orientation programs to attend a separate program designed for student supporters. See the Orientation Hub for more details.
Registering for orientation
Your student will include you in their orientation registration form. If your student needs to update their registration, they can email orientation@uwm.edu.
Ofrecemos la orientación para familias en Español
Las familias son una fuente de apoyo muy importante para los estudiantes universitarios. Cuando usted asista a la orientación familiar en apoyo de su estudiante de UWM, aprenderá información importante acerca de la Universidad de Wisconsin Milwaukee para apoyar a su estudiante en su transición a la universidad. Nos complace informarte que la orientación familiar se ofrece en español en fechas seleccionadas, organizada por el Centro Roberto Hernández (RHC).
Este programa se ofrece tres veces este verano: el 12 de junio, el 30 de junio y el 24 de julio. ¡Esperamos poder atenderle en alguna de estas fechas! Cuando se registren para la orientación, sus estudiantes pueden elegir una de estas fechas desde su portal de admisiones. Por favor, asegúrate de incluirte a ti mismo y a otra persona como invitados cuando se inscriban. Si necesitas ser añadido a la inscripción de orientación de tu estudiante, puedes hacer que se comuniquen contigo por correo electrónico en orientation@uwm.edu (en inglés) o rhc@uwm.edu si prefieres una respuesta en español.
En la Orientación Familiar, usted puede esperar: Podrá asistir a un programa bilingüe solo para familias de estudiantes, mientras su estudiante asiste a su propio programa en inglés donde conocerá a sus compañeros, explorará el campus y se inscribirá en cursos. También aprenderá sobre los recursos importantes de la universidad que están ahí para apoyarlo a usted y a su estudiante, incluyendo al equipo del Centro Roberto Hernández. También podrá conocer el campus de la UWM, donde su estudiante pasará gran parte de su tiempo aprendiendo durante los próximos años.
