A student’s support system is a critical component of their success as a college student. Once your student registers for orientation, you’ll gain access to the Orientation Hub in the Panther Family Portal. Here, you’ll find the guest program agenda as well as information and resources shared at orientation.
Families are a crucial source of support for college students. When you attend family orientation in support of your UWM student, you will learn important information about the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee to support your student in their transition to college.
At Family Orientation, you can expect to:
Attend a program for families only, while your student attends their own program where they will meet peers, explore the campus and enroll in courses.
Learn about important University resources designed to support you and your student.
Familiarize yourself with the UWM campus, where your student will spend much of their time learning for years to come.
Get answers to your questions about UWM and how to support your student in their transition to college.
Orientation program guest policy
Up to two adult guests (parent, guardian, spouse or other support person) are welcome at in-person orientation programs to attend a separate program designed for student supporters. See the Orientation Hub for more details.
Registering for orientation
Your student will include you in their orientation registration form. If your student needs to update their registration, they can email orientation@uwm.edu.
Ofrecemos la orientación para familias en Español
Las familias son una fuente fundamental de apoyo para los estudiantes universitarios. Al participar en la Orientación Familiar para apoyar a su estudiante de UWM, usted recibirá información importante sobre la Universidad de Wisconsin-Milwaukee que le ayudará a acompañar a su estudiante en su transición a la vida universitaria. Nos complace compartir que la Orientación Familiar se ofrecerá en español en fechas seleccionadas este verano, organizada por el personal bilingüe de UWM.
Este programa se ofrecerá en tres fechas: 12 de junio, 30 de junio y 24 de julio. ¡Esperamos poder darle la bienvenida en una de estas sesiones! Al momento de registrarse para la orientación, su estudiante podrá seleccionar una de estas fechas a través de su portal de admisiones. Por favor, asegúrese de incluirse a usted y a otro acompañante como invitados durante el proceso de inscripción.
Si necesita ser agregado a la inscripción de orientación de su estudiante, puede pedirle a su estudiante que se comunique por correo electrónico a orientation@uwm.edu (en inglés) o a donpepe@uwm.edu si prefiere recibir apoyo en español.
Durante la Orientación Familiar, usted podrá:
Participar en un programa bilingüe diseñado especialmente para familias, mientras su estudiante asiste a su propio programa en inglés, donde conocerá a otros estudiantes, explorará el campus y se inscribirá en sus cursos.
Conocer recursos importantes de la universidad que están disponibles para apoyar tanto a usted como a su estudiante, incluyendo el acompañamiento del equipo de profesionales bilingües de UWM.
Recorrer el campus de UWM, donde su estudiante pasará gran parte de su tiempo aprendiendo y creciendo académicamente durante los próximos años.
