Mini-Courses GOALS (Go Out And Learn Something) Program prepares 9th and 10th graders for college and career readiness. Students gain first-hand experience through the GOALS monthly workshops and by visiting college campuses. Each of the workshops is designed with the goal of increasing the students’ knowledge of postsecondary education and how to prepare themselves to apply and enter college. Workshop topics will include postsecondary education options, college majors, financial aid, preparing for college, college applications, campus life, and career exploration.
Visits to accredited postsecondary institutions that offer various degree and certification programs in Wisconsin will expose the students to different degree options and campus settings. Through workshops and campus visits, the students will gain knowledge and experience from various departments, including but not limited to, admissions, financial aid, student support services, student organizations, advisors, multicultural offices, and through other institutional faculty/staff along with Mini-Courses college student workers.
By the end of the semester, students will have compiled a portfolio designed to strengthen knowledge in postsecondary education options, financial aid, and the college application process. Students will complete a career interest inventory and participate in career guidance and counseling.
GOALS has 30 openings per semester for students currently in the 9th and 10th grade. Parents and students will attend an orientation prior to the start of the program. Program fee is $245 for the session. DPI Pre-College Scholarships are available to students who are eligible for free/reduced lunch.
