The following parking garages on campus are gated:
- Lubar
- NWQ
- Pavilion/Klotsche
- Student Union
Most parking locations require payment up front, but these locations require payment prior to or on leaving the garage. The parking fee is calculated based on how long a person is in the garage.
Want to see how much parking costs a day? See our Daily/Hourly Parking Rates for more information.
For most customers, you will pull a ticket on entry. The ticket is used to keep track of parking sessions in our system.
You can pay for parking with a credit/debit card at any exit machine or any payment machine located in the garage.
Pay on foot machines, which are large payment terminals located in the lobbies of garages, accept cash as well as credit/debit card. There is one machine that accepts cash in Lubar, Pavilion/Klotsche, and Student Union Garages. NWQ Garage does not accept cash at any machine.
Entering a Parking Garage
- When arriving at the garage, press the green “Press Here for Ticket” button on the machine (labeled as A in the device diagram).
- A ticket will be printed out immediately below the screen. Keep this in a safe place.
Payment on Exiting
- Scan the ticket ticket QR facing the barcode scanner on the machine (this is labeled as B in the device diagram).
- Follow the instructions on the ticket and the machine to pay for parking.
Assistance in Garages
If you need assistance, you can press the red Help button (labeled as C in the diagram) for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
We use tickets to keep track of how long a customer is in a garage. If it is lost, we cannot say how long a customer has been in the garage, and thus a lost ticket fee is applied to account for that.
A patron short is issued when a customer does not have the ability to pay when exiting the garage. Typically, the customer will press the silver assistance button to be let out of campus.
Patron shorts may be sent out a few days after the event occurs. If the patron short is not paid within three days of the issuance, then there will be additional late fees added to the original amount owed.
Fraud on a parking lot is a citation issued when a vehicle has exited a parking garage without payment.
A common example is tailgating, which is when a vehicle follows another vehicle too closely when exiting. More importantly, it can pose risks to other vehicles, pedestrians, and parking equipment.
Your PantherCard can function as a debit card. You deposit money with your Transportation Services account (see below), then money is available in your account within 48 hours. Funds are good until drawn down.
To use, you scan your card against the keypad at the entry/exit machine to enter/exit. Each time you leave a garage, the transaction fee is charged. The debit card must be scanned scanned on entry and exit to function correctly and properly deduct money from your card.
Do not pull a ticket; if you pull a ticket on entry, you cannot use your debit card balance and will have to pay the ticket fee separately on exiting the garage. Maximum rate is determined by the fee schedule for the garage. Re-entry starts a new transaction.
Students and employees can add money to their PantherCard for limited use access to:
- Lubar
- NWQ
- Pavilion
- Union
Transportation Services does not use GOLD/GET accounts. We have a separate debit account that is also tied to your PantherCard. Transportation Services will provide a different proxy card if your PantherCard is attached to an active permit. Employees can fill out the Debit Card Deposit form if they want to pay through payroll deduction. To add money to your card through the Parking Portal:
- Access the Transportation Services online portal.
- Click UWM Employee and Student Login.
- Enter your credentials.
- Click Next.
- Verify your address information.
- Click Next.
- Scroll down to the permits prefaced with [CAMPUS GARAGES DEBIT CARD]. There are three options: $20, $50, and $100. Select one.
- Agree to Transportation Services’ Rules and Regulations.
- Click Next.
- If you want to add more to your card, you can click the Add Permits to add more money to your account. If not you can select your payment method.
- Click Complete Transaction.
- Click Pay Now.
- Please allow 24 hours for the money to appear on your card.
If you have less than $8 on your card, you will be allowed entry but you may not be able to exit. You can have your account set up so you will receive a reminder email to deposit additional funds if your account drops below a certain amount. You would only receive one email. Please contact uwmpark@uwm.edu for more information.
If you have a permit and choose to add money to your PantherCard, you will need a separate access card. Transportation Services will contact you to provide the card. Otherwise, the debit feature will interfere with usage of your permit. If you have a debit card and later purchase a permit, you will likewise receive a separate access card.
You cannot store vehicles overnight in Lubar and Union garages.
How to Check Your Debit Account Balance
You can check your balance one of the following ways:
- You will receive an email when your balance drops below $12. $12 is the daily parking fee for all garages. You only receive one email.
- When you scan your PantherCard on entering or exiting a garage, the machine displays the value present on your card. Value on exiting is after the fee has been deducted.
