Spring 2026 Essential Parking & Transit Information

You can now request a Spring 2026 benefit code. You must redeem a benefit code each semester you are enrolled to keep using your bus pass.

All student parking permits are sold out. Students can register for the UPARK Park & Ride at Capitol Humboldt; students who pay segregated fees as part of tuition can register for free.

Employees who need a parking permit can purchase one for the Pavilion/Klotsche Garage, NWQ Garage, or Lots 7 and 20 SARUP/Cunningham.

Parking

There is no free parking on campus, including for customers with accessibility issues. Permit or payment is required in addition to a disabled parking identification card or license plate. Said customers should park in designated accessible parking spaces. If all accessible parking spaces are full in your preferred area, you may park in a non-permit space (with gray signage).

Accessible Parking Permit

Customers who have a disabling condition or illness may be eligible for an accessible parking permit, which allows them to park in any accessible parking space across campus.

Permit for a Permanent or Long-term Disability

In order to purchase a UWM accessible parking permit, customers must first obtain a disabled parking identification card and/or license plate from the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Instructions on how to obtain these can be found at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Once attained, customers should submit a copy of their authorization for Transportation Services’ records.

Permits are renewed annually for faculty/staff or each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for students. Purchases must be done in-person or over the phone.

Permit for a Temporary Disability

Transportation Services may issue a temporary parking permit for up to two weeks if:

  • You are in the process of obtaining a disabled parking identification card from the DMV.
  • You have a temporary illness or condition that require access to accessible parking spaces.

In either case, you submit an Accessible Parking Permit Request with a signed doctor’s note.

Hourly/Daily Accessible Parking

Payment is required for parking in accessible parking spaces on campus, but mobile payment vendors offer discounted rates for accessible parking at surface lots. Customers must enter the unique zone for accessible parking, which is different from the zone number for general parking in a lot. Payment is required on or prior to arrival. To make use of it:

  1. Use Modii Parking Finder to locate accessible parking spaces on campus.
  2. Park in a labeled accessible parking permit.
  3. Please check the accessible parking signage for the zone number.
  4. Open the mobile app and enter the zone number.
  5. Display your disabled parker identification card from the DMV. If you have disabled license plates, then you do not need to.

Please note that discounted rates are not available in the following facilities:

  • Lubar
  • NWQ
  • Pavilion/Klotsche
  • Student Union

The above parking garages all are gated and thus do not differentiate between accessible and non-accessible parking rates. They require you to pull a ticket and pay on or prior to exiting. There are accessible parking spaces in each of the facilities.

Transit

BOSS and the Off Campus Shuttle

Be On the Safe Ride is the campus safe ride program. The Off Campus Shuttle provides rides to the Zilber School of Public Health.

  • A vehicle with a ramp and securements is available upon request.
  • Riders can request an accessible vehicle by calling B.O.S.S. at (414) 229-6503.
  • Riders using TransLoc can indicate the need for an accessible vehicle when submitting a ride request by selecting the accessibility icon.
  • Download the TransLoc app from your smartphone (Android / Apple).
  • If you do not have a smartphone, you can also request rides online through this desktop link uwm.edu/parking/saferide.

Public Transit: Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS)

Every Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) public transit bus is an accessible, low-floor bus. More information about their accessibility features can be found on the MCTS website. Bus passes for students and faculty/staff allow for unlimited ride.

Public Transit: MCTS Transit Plus

Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) also offers a paratransit service, Transit Plus, for riders with disabilities. UWM faculty/staff and students with bus passes are eligible to use this service, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • A person with a disability who cannot independently board, ride, or get off a bus.
  • A person whose disability-related condition or environmental barrier makes it impossible to independently travel to or from a fixed route bus stop.

The fare established by the County for use of this paratransit service will be paid by the County for any Transit Plus trip taken by a student also registered for the U-PASS program. Any trip costing up to the County’s maximum reimbursable amount plus the current Transit Plus fare co-pay will be free to eligible University students. Any fee above this combined total amount will continue to be paid by the user.

To obtain the fare waiver, eligible students will be certified by the Milwaukee County Transit Plus Program as eligible each semester. Students will also be required to show the transportation service provider their U-PASS fare media, a validated University student identification card, and a valid Milwaukee County Transit Plus Program identification card.

Rides must be requested not less than one day before and not more than two weeks in advance of the date of the ride. Please see MCTS’s website for more information.

Prowl Line Campus Shuttle

The Prowl Line campus shuttle has both a housing and a commuter route. The housing route connects Cambridge, Kenilworth, and RiverView residents with main campus. The commuter route provides service from the U-PARK Park & Ride on Capitol & Humboldt to main campus.

  • Riders can simply wait at the Prowl Line stop and inform the driver that they require a vehicle equipped to transport mobility devices.
  • Not all Prowl Line shuttles are equipped; however, riders can download Passio GO to verify which shuttles have the proper equipment.

Website Accessibility

Transportation Services Parking Portal Accessibility

  • The Parking Portal has an accessibility widget to allow customers with disabilities to manage bus passes, purchase parking permits, pay citations, and more.
  • The accessibility menu can be enabled either by hitting the tab key when the page first loads or by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears on the corner of the page.
  • The widget has default settings to meet the needs of customers who are motor-impaired, blind, dyslexic, and have cognitive and learning issues.
  • Accessibility options include the ability to adjust contrast, text size, text spacing, and line spacing, as well as to pause animations (as might be used in the carousel), and many more.
  • The widget also includes a screen reader, so even if customers are away from their main device, they don’t need to install a separate screen reader to access Parking Portal content.
How to Request an Accessible Permit

Accessible parking permits cannot be purchased online. You must submit a request online or call 414-229-4000.
