Overnight parking is available at garages adjacent to residence halls, and a permit is required for most locations. NWQ and Pavilion Garages on the main campus also offer overnight parking. Limited guest parking is available at Kenilworth and Sandburg garages.
Resident Parking
Parking at Residence Halls and Apartments
Limited parking is available at residence halls and apartments. Many locations (especially Cambridge Commons and RiverView) sell out weeks ahead of move-in. Please check the Rates page for pricing.
About Cambridge Commons Garage
- Parking Location: Cambridge Commons Garage offers heated and covered parking. Most parking is secured behind a parking gate, but some parking spaces are located in the public, non-secure section of the garage. Parking in the secured area is not guaranteed with a permit.
- Visitor Parking: Visitors may park for brief stays in the public, non-secure section. Must pay for parking. No overnight parking is allowed.
- Permits: Permits are available for University Housing residents only. Must have a Cambridge parking permit to park in garage.
Cambridge Move-In
Vehicles must be removed from the garage during move-in periods. Alternative parking options are available.
Northwest Quadrant (NWQ) garage and Kenilworth Square Apartments lower level public garage are typically designated as alternative parking locations. Transportation Services will reach out prior to move-in with instructions for permit holders.
Returning/Cancelling Permits
Permit holders must return your hangtag after your permit ends. This applies to all permit holders, regardless of whether you cancelled your permit or it had expired with the end of the semester.
- Lost Hangtag Fee: $25.00 replacement fee for unreturned hangtag. You must return your hangtag after your permit ends to avoid this fee.
- Return Process: You can mail or drop off the hangtag at UWM Transportation Services: Union WG 25, 2200 E Kenwood Blvd, Milwaukee 53211.
Cancellations: If you are cancelling prior to the expiration of your permit, please submit the Permit Cancellation Request form, and staff will determine if you are eligible for a refund. You must return your hangtag to be eligible for a permit, or you will be charged a $25 lost hangtag fee.
About Kenilworth Garage
- Parking Location: There are two levels in Kenilworth Garage.
- First floor: This is covered, non-temperature controlled and non-secure parking. Not valid for Kenilworth permits. Only hourly/daily parking is available, and this lot is open to the public.
- Second floor: This is covered, temperature-controlled, and secure parking. Must have Kenilworth annual, semester, or monthly permit.
- Permits: Preference for permits is given to University Housing residents and UWM faculty/staff. Then, other community members may purchase where space permits.
- Visitor Parking: Daily/hourly visitor parking is allowed on the first floor. Must pay for parking. Overnight parking is allowed. Guest Housing residents may qualify for parking in the upper level. Check with University Housing for more details.
Additional Relevant Parking Rules
- Monthly permits are not prorated if canceled after the start date.
- Non-UWM permit holders must return their housing fob, prox card, or other access token after their permit/access expires. Failure to return it promptly may result in a $25 fine. It can be returned to either the Kenilworth front desk or to UWM Transportation Services at UN WG 25, 2200 E Kenwood Blvd, Milwaukee WI 53211.
- Parking Location: This is covered, temperature-controlled, and secure parking.
- Permits: Permits are available for University Housing residents only. Must have RiverView parking permit to park in the garage.
- Visitor Parking: No visitor parking is available at RiverView Garage. Kenilworth Garage is the closest UWM-run facility.
About Sandburg Garage
- Parking Location: Sandburg Garage has covered, publicly accessible parking.
- Permits: Permits are available for residents and faculty/staff. Other community members where space permits. Long-term parking requires an annual, semester, or monthly permit.
- Visitor Parking: Hourly, daily, and weekly parking may be available if space is available. Check signage for details. Must pay for parking. Overnight visitor parking is allowed.
- Locations: Motorcycle Parking is available at Cambridge Commons, Kenilworth Garage, and Sandburg Residence Hall.
- Permits: Permits are available for UWM students, faculty, and staff. Kenilworth Apartments residents may qualify for motorcycle permit at the attached garage. Limited spaces at Cambridge Commons.
- Notes: Notify Transportation Services if parking at Cambridge. No motorcycle spaces in Kenilworth’s second-floor garage.
Parking Near Residence Halls
NWQ Garage and Pavilion Garage offer additional parking for residents. They are typically available at a lower price compared with the pricing for residence halls. Students residing near UWM but not at University Housing residence halls can also purchase a permit for one of these garages.
Guest Parking
Guest parking is available at select parking garages. Not all garages offer overnight parking to guests, and availability varies. Guests are not covered by resident permits and must pay for parking. See our guest parking page for general information about guest parking.

Parking tends to be restricted Monday through Thursday during Fall and Spring semesters. Depending on availability, it may become available during the semester. Check with Transportation Services to confirm.
Permits at UWM
- Permits or payment are required to park.
- Permits can only be requested after room assignments are made for the semester.
- Permits are valid for one vehicle only.
- Parking is guaranteed, but there is not an assigned space for a single permit holder.
- Pricing: Fees vary by location and permit type. Check the rates for up-to-date permit pricing.
- Cancellations: Cancellations typically result in a prorated refund minus a $10 processing fee, as noted in Rule #2.3.7 of our regulations. Customers should submit a Permit Cancellation Request to terminate their permit.
