Tech Tip: Staying safe online

Staying safe online sounds easy enough, but practicing strong online safety can be tricky.

At UWM, we have three things that help keep us safe when accessing UWM’s online services: your username, password, and multi-factor authentication (MFA).

When you create a password, make it unique, make it long, and be sure to include numbers and special characters. Using a password manager can help you remember your passwords and keep them secure at the same time. If you need to change your UWM password, follow the instructions in our KnowledgeBase article.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) verifies that you are logging in. If you ever receive an authentication request that you don’t recognize, never share your code with anyone. If you are receiving authentication requests, that means someone has your username and password. Be sure to contact the UWM Help Desk as soon as possible for assistance.
