Teams Meeting Recordings saved to OneDrive & SharePoint

On Monday, November 2nd, 2020 the location for new Teams meeting recordings will be changed. Recordings will be stored on OneDrive and SharePoint instead of Microsoft Stream.

One-to-one and group meetings will be stored in the OneDrive space of the person who started the recording in a special folder labeled “Recordings” – that sits at the top level of the recorder’s OneDrive. Team channel meetings will be stored in a folder labeled “Recordings” under a folder named after the channel under the Team’s document library.

All meeting invitees – except for external users – in non-channel meetings will automatically get a shared link to access the meeting recording. External users will need to be explicitly added to the shared list by the meeting organizer or the person that clicked the record button. For Channel meetings, permissions will be inherited from the owners and members list in the channel.

A few limitations to consider:

  • Currently, you can not turn on captions while viewing a meeting recording.
  • At this time, there is no way to download meeting recording transcripts.
  • The recording will appear in the meeting channel once it finishes saving; there is not a notification email sent.
