An estimated 1.4 million children in the United States could be classified as young caregivers – children who provide medical care to adults, typically family members. However, very little is known about this invisible army of children. UWM researcher Melinda Kavanaugh is one of only a handful of people studying the topic by interviewing the children. This video documents the difficulties these children face at a young age. For more information on Kavanaugh’s research visit https://uwm.edu/news/children-caring-for-sick-parents/.
