UWM to participate in Great American Smokeout

The Norris Health Center will participate in the Great American Smokeout in the Union Concourse on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event focuses on providing students, faculty and community members with information about vaping, tobacco and nicotine and resources for how to cut back or quit smoking.

Norris peer health educators will offer tobacco and nicotine prevention education materials, research findings from UWM faculty on the dangers of e-cigarettes, and information about UWM’s smoke- and tobacco-free policy and Milwaukee’s smoking prevention efforts. Visitors to the event can also take home giveaway items.

The event will include tips on cutting back on smoking or vaping and resources on the first steps to quitting.

To minimize the health risks associated with inhaling secondhand smoke, UWM campuses became smoke- and tobacco-free in October 2018.
