UWM selects Switala as new police chief

Brian Switala has been named chief of the UWM Police Department, officially beginning his role on June 15.

As police chief, Switala leads the UWMPD and advises the university on strategies to prevent crime and enhance the safety, security and well-being of our community. He directs the department’s response to major university emergencies and life-threatening situations.

Switala brings extensive leadership experience to the role. He has served with the UWMPD since 2000, as an officer, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and acting and interim police chief. He has served since April 2024 as acting and interim police chief.
