UWM School Psychology doctoral program ranked 4th nationally

Best Counseling Degrees, an online resource for exploring the nation’s best counseling degree programs, ranked UWM’s doctoral program in school psychology fourth among the top 50 doctoral programs in the nation.

Published in the fall, the ranking was created from a list of programs that were accredited by the American Psychological Association and approved by the National Association of School Psychologists. In addition to professional accreditations, the ranking method factored in the in program’s pass rate for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP). UWM’s pass rate was 100 percent.

The only other state school in these rankings was UW-Madison, at No. 17.

Part of the School of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology, the School Psychology program at UWM emphasizes training students to be multi-culturally competent and skilled in working with urban populations.

In 2013, the Department of Educational Psychology won the American Psychological Association’s prestigious Bersoff Presidential Cultural Award for its success in recruiting and graduating doctoral students from racial/ethnic minorities as well as from other countries.
