Based on direction from UW System, UWM has removed the TikTok application from university-owned mobile devices. Faculty and staff with university-owned iOS, Android and Windows devices have been alerted directly about the removal process.

UW System has restricted installment or use of the app on university-owned devices. This follows Gov. Tony Evers’ executive order on Jan. 12 that banned TikTok from state-issued devices.

TikTok users may still access the social media platform through web browsers. Personal phones and devices won’t be affected by the change.

UWM will continue to use TikTok as both a recruitment and retention tool, connecting with prospective students and current UWM students. Students see a mix of academic and non-academic content from UWM on the popular platform.
