This fall, UW-Milwaukee is beginning work on a new Long‑Range Campus Plan. It’s been 16 years since the university completed its last comprehensive plan, and in that time, academics, research, student needs and the workforce have changed.
The planning and design firm Ayers Saint Gross (ASG) will guide this multi‑year effort in partnership with UWM. They will help assess how facilities are functioning today, and how they can better support student success, discovery and innovation, and community impact.
The campus planning process involves two phases: discovery and development. In the discovery phase, which begins this fall, ASG will conduct comprehensive facility condition assessments and space inventories.
Based on what’s learned in the first phase, in the second or development phase that’s anticipated to begin in the summer of 2027, ASG will work with faculty and staff to explore scenarios, evaluate options and shape long‑range strategies for our facilities and open spaces. Faculty and staff will have a chance to share their thoughts.
This Long‑Range Campus Plan will directly shape the environments where we teach, advise, conduct research, collaborate and work every day. It also will guide future investments and improvements that influence instructional quality, research capacity, workplace design and the overall campus experience.
