Jonathan Kasparek, a professor of history at UWM at Waukesha, is the author of a new book published by the Wisconsin Historical Press.
“Proxmire: Bulldog of the Senate” is the first comprehensive biography of one of Wisconsin’s most important, and entertaining, political figures. Known for championing consumer-protection legislation and farming interests, Sen. William Proxmire also fought continuously against wasteful government spending, highlighting the most egregious examples with his monthly “Golden Fleece Award.”
Based on extensive research in the senator’s papers and on interviews with family and colleagues, Kasparek’s book fills a significant gap in Wisconsin’s political history.
