Student health center to have grand opening Sept. 14 in new location

UWM students, staff and faculty are invited to experience a more holistic approach to wellness Sept. 14 at the grand opening of the Student Health and Wellness Center in the Northwest Quadrant.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees can make stress masks, enjoy chair massages, tour the new facilities on floors 7 and 8 in Building D of NWQ, and more. The opening of the center will be marked at noon with a ribbon cutting ceremony and speech from UWM Interim Provost Scott Gronert.

Student medical services moved from the Norris Health Center and changed its name to Student Health and Wellness Center. Now, all UWM’s student wellness services — counseling, medical services, and health promotion and advocacy services — will be housed in the same building after two years of renovations.

“We were looking for a name that really conveyed a more holistic approach to wellness,” said Carrie Flieder, director of UWM university counseling services. “We really wanted to convey to the campus community that we’re here to hold and support the whole student.”
