The Student Association (SA) is UWM’s official student government, advocating for student needs, allocating segregated university fees and collaborating with campus partners to shape policies and improve the student experience. Students involved in SA develop valuable skills including:

  • Public speaking and effective communication
  • Budget management and resource allocation
  • Policy analysis and development
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation
  • Project management and event planning
  • Inclusive leadership and team collaboration

The Student Association at UWM played a central role in representing and engaging students across campus this year. Key highlights of their work included:

  • Hosting the popular “Pizza with the Provost” student feedback session.
  • Organizing town halls with academic departments to gather student input.
  • Allocating funds to support a variety of student organization events.
  • Advancing sustainability efforts through the Green Fund Advocacy and Mentorship Committee.
  • Actively participating in various campus and SA committees to represent student interests.

There are still vacant senate seats for the 2025–26 academic year, including positions for school/college representatives, identity-based advocacy senators and at-large senators.

Students may nominate themselves or faculty and staff can recommend candidates. If you know a student who would be a strong advocate or is looking to grow their leadership skills, please encourage them to get involved or provide us with their information so we can reach out and encourage them along their journey.

SA will hold elections for transfer and first-year senators in the fall. SA may also hold an election for the vice president of academic affairs, who partners with the provost and academic affairs on a variety of student issues. Find information about those elections at this webpage.
