Special recognition ceremony for graduates on Sunday, April 10

About 750 recent UW-Milwaukee graduates are expected to attend a special in-person recognition ceremony Sunday, April 10, for students who had a virtual commencement because they graduated during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony will begin at noon at the UWM Panther Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave. Media are invited to attend. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

UWM students who graduated in May 2020, December 2020 or May 2021 have been invited to the ceremony, which will have the pomp and circumstance they may have missed at their graduations.

At the ceremony, students’ names will be read as they cross the stage. Graduation regalia is optional; some students might wear full regalia, others might wear all black or UWM gold and black. Students have already received their diplomas – they’re invited to bring them along for photos.

Chia Vang, UWM vice chancellor of diversity, equity and inclusion, will be the featured speaker.

Including guests, about 5,000 people are expected to attend Sunday’s ceremony.

More information is available on the UWM graduation webpage.
