UWM to celebrate chancellor’s inauguration on Friday, Oct. 2
UWM will celebrate the inauguration of its ninth chancellor, Mark Mone, on Friday, Oct. 2. “No one is better positioned to handle the challenges the university faces than Chancellor Mone,” said David Misky, president of the UWM Alumni Association Board of Trustees. “He has incredible support within the university, but he also has a wonderful relationship with business. Both of these relationships will be incredibly useful.”
UWM homecoming: 9 days of sports, food and fun

UWM opens world-class research complex
The first new building to open on UWM’s East Side campus in 20 years, the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex provides world-class facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for research in physics, public health and other fields. “I have no doubt that KIRC will attract new talent to the university and the city itself,” said Rodney Swain, dean of the College of Letters and Science.
UWM grad makes a guest appearance on Modern Family
Brittani Ebert, a graduate of UWM’s theater program, has a co-starring role in the Sept. 30 episode of ABC’s popular series, “Modern Family.” Ebert, who’s worked in film, television, theater and commercials, talks about what it’s like building an acting career in Hollywood.
Increasingly, universities speak to new students in Spanish
Recruiters and advisers at institutions of higher education, including UWM, are reaching out in Spanish to Latino/a students. UWM will host a national Hispanic Recruiting Fair Sept. 28, giving students and families a chance to learn about universities all over the country.
Deaf Awareness Week: celebrating a way of life, and inviting others to listen
Strong American Sign Language and Interpreter Training Programs have made UWM a center for the deaf and hard of hearing. Deaf Awareness Week, Sept. 21-26, lets both the deaf and hearing explore the language, myths and realities of deaf life and the unique culture.
