Eighteen female students in UWM’s computer science program attended the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference Oct.14-16 in Houston, Texas – the world’s largest technical conference for women in computing.

While in Houston, many of the students were able to meet with Satya Nadella, (’90 MS), CEO of Microsoft Corporation, and discussed career and internship opportunities with a representative from Microsoft. Ethan Munson, professor and associate dean, and Christine Cheng, associate professor, accompanied the UWM students.

The conference results in collaborative proposals, networking opportunities and mentoring for the attendees. Presenters are leaders in their fields, representing industry, academia and government. Students also participated in professional development activities.

Co-founded by Anita Borg and Telle Whitney in 1994 and inspired by the legacy of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, Anita Borg Institute’s Grace Hopper Celebration of Women In Computing Conference is designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront.
