Asian Faculty and Staff Association fall reception Nov. 14

The fall reception for the Asian Faculty and Staff Association is on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Regents Room in Chapman Hall.

The reception will feature Asian food, a silent auction, welcome to new Asian faculty members at UWM and announcements of AFSA Student Award recipients. Attendees are asked to bring an ethnic nonperishable food item for the UWM Food Center and Pantry to be entered into a raffle for a prize.

The reception will welcome new Asian faculty and staff members to UWM and highlight the many contributions that the AFSA makes to the UWM campus community. The reception will also honor three AFSA Student Award recipients. Provost Johannes Britz will join.

The AFSA was founded in 2002 by faculty and staff interested in bringing together people of Asian heritage and other colleagues whose work focuses on Asian-related topics. It is led by a steering committee comprised of UWM staff and faculty members. Their mission is to advance the scholastic and civic interests of its members by providing opportunities to:

  • Work collaboratively across disciplines to plan and conduct research
  • Promote partnerships with community-based organizations for research and evaluation activities
  •  Serve as consultant to the UWM community on academic; sociocultural; and faculty, staff and student recruitment and retention issues
  • Encourage and reward the scholastic achievement and community participation of UWM Asian students
  • Network and socialize

The reception is one of the ways in which the AFSA celebrates the diverse Asian cultures at UWM.

Please RSVP to Vipavee Thongpriwan (thongpri@uwm.edu) or Karen Miyoshi (kmiyoshi@uwm.edu).
